TIPS brings together young alumni from a select group of schools to create a community of talented, dynamic individuals. The chance to meet incredible people was one of the best parts of the top schools we were privileged to attend. We create fun opportunities for this exceptional group to connect here in the real world, beyond the iron-gates of our alma maters.
We’ve kicked off the summer with two great TIPS San Fran parties so far, bringing together over 250 fabulous young alums at each event. Join us for our next party at The Ambassador to continue this cocktailing-connecting-laughing Thursday tradition.
Of the Ambassador, Citysearch says “this two-level lounge practically purrs with seductive touches like masculine leather seating areas, exposed brick, twinkling chandeliers and custom black wallpaper sporting the establishment's logo. Antique-style rotary phones set into the booths give patrons' a lifeline to the bar (and to each other), where bartenders churn house-made mixers into classic cocktails.”
Advance RSVP Required: Please click here.
Once you register, you will be added to the event guest list at the door. No physical ticket will be sent to you (although PayPal will email you a receipt for your records).
Advance Registration will be open through 10 AM July 24th. After that, limited admission will be available at the door on a first-come-first served basis until we reach venue capacity. Once we near capacity, admission will be guest-list only
The Fine Print
*You must be 21 to attend & plan to drink responsibly. Designate a driver & absolutely do not drink and drive because that perfect smile probably cost your parents a lot in dental bills and scattering your teeth all over the road would just seem downright disrespectful.
*No refunds or cancellations permitted.
TIPS summer nights on Sunset continue with July’s Ivy Plus young alumni party. We’re heading to Bar Marmont, aka “Chateau Marmont’s sexy, sinister sister.” The cocktailing-lounging-flirting-laughing of the night will kick off at 7 PM, in time for you to enjoy Bar Marmont’s full dinner menu and the host of appetizer specials which will be available just for us. We’ll have the place all to ourselves, so come early and stay late to sip-swig-swill the night away with drink specials & laughing friends, old and new.
Of the lovely Bar Marmont, LA.Com coos, “Next door to the historic Chateau Marmont hotel, this bar is one of the top choices for the young Industry set when it's time to put away—or at least put down—their cell phones and start drinking. It's chic, subdued and the waitstaff couldn't be more beautiful…Bar Marmont looks like a sultan's rumpus room, complete with butterflies on the ceiling. The crowd is stylish and beautiful, so don't show up in a sweatshirt and torn jeans—unless you are one of the many Hollywood starlets who hang out on the patio, in which case you can wear whatever you want. The drinks (like the excellent mojito) and food... are served with flair. One of the best-kept secrets in town: the food is good, and served until 1:30am.”
Advance RSVP Required: Please click here.
Deadline: When we reach capacity.
You know the drill – make sure to RSVP and sign up ASAP. The intimate booths & patios of Bar Marmont will fill up quickly, so there will be a strict door policy – TIPS guest list only. We will allow a limited number of walk-ins if we have room strictly subject to venue capacity limits (so if we’re full when you get there, no dice). Once you have completed your RSVP, Pay Pal will send you a confirmation confirming your reservation
THE FINE PRINT:
*You and your guests must be 21 to attend & plan to drink responsibly. Designate a driver & no drinking and driving. DUIs and death are no way to enjoy the summer party season. When we say ‘killer party’ – that’s not meant to be an instruction.
*No refunds or cancellations permitted
Laugh away the summer heat and cool down in Sky Bar’s pool with the City of Angels floating away beneath the Mondrian’s killer views. Breeze through the day with all your favorite Ivy Plus coeds.
Grab your suit, suntan lotion, and shades & come ready to laugh (and splash!). Yes, this is a swimming, splashing, spraying pool party, so definitely wear your suit and plan to swim, play, and sun-bathe the day away!
TIPS will have day beds and tables in the gazebo reserved just for us. Other than TIPS, the pool will be open only to hotel guests. Sky Bar’s day pool scene is chill – they don’t do Vegas here – so this event list will be smaller than our usual madness. So, please do make sure to RSVP – this event will be strictly guest list only (no admission at the door) – unless you get a hotel room.
Sky Bar will provide the towels and of course there is a full bar and food served at the pool.
Advance RSVP Required: Please click here.
Deadline: When we reach capacity.
Once you RSVP, you will receive confirmation from PayPal via email, but no actual physical ticket. You will automatically be placed on our guest list and the Sky Bar security will have that list. Your guests will use your name to get in (as your +1, etc.). We do not need their names.
THE FINE PRINT:
*You and your guests must be 21 to attend & plan to drink responsibly. Designate a driver & no drinking and driving. For this pool party, channel Daisy and her cloud moves, not Gatsby and his pool dives.
*No refunds or cancellations permitted

June Bloom
06.19.2008 | Otis-- To kick off the official start of the summer season, TIPS headed to Otis, a sexy hidden gem in the heart of Union Square. Otis was the perfect locale for catching up with friends and making new connections. DJ Migz kept the party hopping until late in the night as we TIPed the night away.

Destination: Tinseltown
06.17.2008 | Winstons-- Blooming into June, we headed to Winston’s to spend a night dallying at a modern classic on the Hollywood scene. TIPS-ers brought their charm, dazzling good looks, brilliant openers, clever yet subtle humor, and winning smiles (oh! almost forgot: and their-ever-so-becoming humility). Another laughing TIPS summer night.

!May Day! Mixer
05.28.2008 | S Bar -- For our May young alum mixer, we were off to Hollywood to frolic at SBE’s latest foray into all things hot in LA nightlife: S Bar. LA.com croons: “Further pioneering and refining the nightlife milieu, SBE and Philippe Starck are an unstoppable force with their latest collaboration, S Bar…. Groups of S Bar-hoppers are seated in mismatched chairs at a giant white cross-shaped table to maximize the socializing and minimize the pretentiousness. Wall-sized canvases with photos by French photographer Patrick Tourneboeuf frame the whimsical room lit by colorful upside-down lamps. And if that isn't trippy enough, Alice in Wonderland (and other choice movies) are playing on a TV in the bathroom…on the ceiling. Hmmm, no one really knows what the S in S Bar stands for, so let's just pretend it stands for Superfabulous – because that's exactly what it is.” After our super-fabulous party-filled-S Bar night, we agree!

San Francisco Launch Party
05.01.2008 | APARTMENT 24 -- The night was warm, the music was rockin' and 250 of our favorite young alums were partying at the San Francisco TIPS Launch Party at Apartment 24 in North Beach. This classic retro-chic bar with its wild metallic wallpaper and zebra wood bar was the perfect setting for a laughing-cocktailing- connecting night.

Sky Bar Spring Fever
04.22.2008 | SKYBAR -- Spring Fever carried us to Sky Bar for a frolicking night with our favorite alumni friends. The sun sparkled on the pool until sunset brought out the sparkling city lights below. We had the pool deck and upper ivy-covered pavilion all to ourselves, making this a classic Sunset night to remember. The classic, famed Skybar, with its open air, poolside outdoor living room, was the perfect match for all you fabulous TIPS-ies. Definitely one of our best parties yet. Stay tuned for more Sky Bar sprees to come.

March Mixer
03.27.2008 | SEVEN -- For our March young alum mixer, we were off to WeHo to fill our night with as many of the 7 deadly sins as we could at the nightspot du jour:
S E V E N. Luxuria (extravagance/lust), Gula (gluttony), Avaritia (greed), Acedia (sloth), Ira (wrath), Invidia (envy), and Superbia (pride) – we collected ‘em all. Entering, S e v e n you pass through a narrow corridor lined with river rock and into a design sanctuary of raw woods, candlelit lighting and stone accents. This revitalized former Belly spot was the perfect place to lounge on the leather benches, linger in the sunken booths, dance a bit in the main room, or flutter outside on one of the two patios.t.

Falcon February
02.25.2008 | FALCON -- For this red-hot red month, TIPS took over Falcon, a sleek art deco oasis in Hollywood. Falcon, named after Falcon Lair - the luxurious retreat of film star Rudolph Valentino - with its enclosed outdoor patio and yummy food, was the perfect place for a night of sparkling-laughing-people-watching-cocktailing-connecting under the moon and stars. When the bar got packed, the fun tumbled outside to the patio, leaving the big bonfire to illuminate the tipping smiles of the night.

2008 Kick-Off Party
01.31.2008 | THE STANDARD -- We kicked off the New Year with friends - new and old - and played the night away at Purple Lounge, an intimate club tucked away in The Standard Hotel on Sunset.
London Times calls Purple "the place to be seen," while In Style dubs it "playground to the beautiful people." Naturally, we fit right in.
Music thumped, boys and girls bumped, and another buzzing night TIPed away.

Mistletoe & Cocktails
12.15.2007 | WILLIAM TURNER GALLERY -- Never one to miss the chance to throw a fabulous party, The Ivy Plus Society celebrated the holiday season with a mistletoe-filled night of cocktails, dessert, art, & music. At December’s holiday celebration, young alums donned their holiday finest and decorated the night with laughs, running to (and occasionally from) the mistletoe.
We filled the night with cheer and champagne at the William Turner Gallery at Bergamot Station - a former trolley station which has been transformed into one of LA’s most famous and unique arts complexes. The gallery featured an exhibition by Curtis Ripley Nocturnes & Preludes. Click here for a re-cap of the exhibition.
Cheers to a *Sparkling* Night!

Downtown Mixer
11.13.2007 | SEVEN GRAND -- November took us to a Downtown Bar dispensing Uptown Booze, where we tapped the blooming but still edgy downtown scene. This dark, chocolately hunting lodge is definitely one of the sexier venues we have landed.
LA Weekly noted that “There is definitely a bookish, masculine vibe to the place...the kind of joint you'd find in Fitzgerald, Hemingway, or Miller (Henry, not Arthur)... a great place to drink bourbon, puff on a cigar and pretend to be in an imaginary boys club. Even if you're a girl.”
We found all this & more to be true and 200+ TIPS cats grooved the night away, swigging whiskey & wine beneath the watchful gaze of the stuffed jack-a-lopes on the wall. Somewhere in the deep, dark booths, ringed by the Scotish plaid, chandeliers glinting above the velvet green of the pool tables, surely secrets were exchanged and promises made. Live jazz giving the night a smooth finish and sending us off into the quiet, still downtown night on the notes of a sax.

Octoberfest
10.22.2007 | HOLLY'S WEST -- October – that time of year where even adults are allowed to play dress-up and let their fantasies run wild. We bottled up a bit of that October spirit hit Holly’s West. We had the entire club to ourselves, so we have no one but ourselves to blame (or credit) for the scandalous behavior... and perhaps whatever Halloween spooks may have been hanging about.

Trends in Television Panel
10.27.2007 | FOX STUDIOS -- How will TV content be created and distributed?
October 23, 2007
7 PM Networking, 7:30 PM Panel
Fox Studios - Zanuck Theatre, Century City
The Chairman and CEO of Fox has said that the last few years have been "the most revolutionary period in the history of mass media." TiVo, YouTube, user-generated sites, and Internet distribution are just a few examples of the ways that audiences receive content have changed. How will new technologies change the television broadcast model? Where are new sources of content going to come from (Geico’s cavemen, comic books)? What type of content do audiences want to watch and what are the networks buying? How do the networks build an audience for TV content across platforms?

Bar Marmont
09.24.2007 | BAR MARMONT -- We kicked off the fall season with September’s Ivy Plus young alumni party at Bar Marmont, aka “Chateau Marmont’s sexy, sinister sister.” The cocktailing-lounging-flirting-laughing continued deep into the night (er... morning) until we were finally kicked out around 2 AM. Nothing like an evening of vodka & cigarettes to start the week off right!
Beneath the butterfly-flecked ceiling (does anyone else find that a little creepy?), tucked into a red-leather booth, digits were exchanged, deals were closed, and dubious propositions were surely made...
