Our TIPS summer line-up continues with this classic San Fran spot. Join us for a cocktail on the patio as surely there is no other more appropriate activity than a drink with friends for a casual summer evening.
Of this classic, the San Francisco Chronicle notes “This sidewalk cafe has had as many lives as have the cool cats who have frequented the place since it opened in 1958…The outdoor area remains a popular draw. With enough heaters to chase the characteristic chill, and good bartenders to mix up stiff drinks, it's still one of the best year-round outdoor venues in the city. Diners can watch another world pass by while eating oysters on the half shell, savoring mini hamburgers or cutting into grilled flat-iron steak topped with melting herb butter.”

RSVP: Please Click Here
• Once you register, your name will be added to the event guest list at the door. No physical ticket will be sent to you but PayPal will email you a receipt. Print the receipt or save it to your phone and bring it with you to the event as back-up in case there are any guest list/PayPal snafoos.
• If you buy tickets for guests, they should check-in as your +1s under your name at the door. We don’t need their names.
• Advance Registration will be open through Noon on July 23rd (or until we sell-out; whichever comes first). After that, limited admission will be available at the door on a first-come-first served basis until we reach venue capacity.

Hum-Bug Details
*You must be 21 to attend & plan to drink responsibly. Designate a driver, grab a cab, or BART your way home because we like you just the way you are and would hate to see death and disfigurement ruin that pretty face of yours.
*No refunds or cancellations permitted.

NY: The Park - Penthouse

Wednesday, July 22nd

$13 per person through July 15th, $18 thereafter
Deadline: when we reach capacity

The TIPS fun continues this July with our playdate at The Park Penthouse. Enjoy the rooftop views over a cocktail with your favorite alumni friends, new and old. Make some new connections, scattering cards hither-and-thither around the July night. Perhaps the party will bring you a new partner, capital source, date, or friend… but at the very least, we’re sure it will deliver smiles, laughs, and a chance to show off those fab new (shoes/cards/jacket/pick-up lines…).

Of The Park, Citysearch croons “An outing to this ski lodge-sized hot spot, with one of the city's most expansive and popular outdoor patios, feels more like a night spent at a fashion show than dinner at a restaurant--and not just because of the celebrity sightings. There's a loose anything-goes element to the style: A 30-foot tree plucked from tropical climes sits in the middle of the dining room, amethyst gods rest behind glass near the bathrooms and the maitre d' likes to sport red-laced sneakers with his suit.”

LA: Crown Bar

Thursday, July 16th

Crown Bar
7321 Santa Monica Blvd.
West Hollywood, CA 90046

$12/ person through 7.09.09, $15 thereafter

TIPS summer nights will continue this month at Crown Bar so get set for another laughing, smiling night. School may be out for summer, but all your fave, fun alums are still in session so pop by for a summer cocktail on the patio or kick-back under one of the chandeliered booths inside.

The LA Times swoons “Formerly the Tempest Bar, this latest offering from the same team behind the still-hot Winston's (including actor Andy Fiscella, GQ editor Chris Huvane Charlie Lew and Matt Lavin) is sure to impress even the most jaded scenester…..  The bar is, well, regal with several banquettes lining the walls (next to padded walls with textured wallpaper), strategically-placed chandeliers everywhere, white marble-topped wood tables, studded ottomans, distressed mirrors and a large, octagon-shaped bar at the center of the new destination.”

Advance RSVP Requested: Please Click Here
Deadline: When we reach capacity. $12/ person through 7.09.09, $15 thereafter

THE FINE PRINT:
*You and your guests must be 21 to attend & plan to drink responsibly. Designate a driver & no drinking and driving. DUIs and death are no way to kick off the 2009 party season. When we say ‘killer party’ – that’s not meant to be an instruction.

NY: Maritime Hotel

TIPS6.23.09 | Maritime Hotel -- The Maritime Hotel Cabanas were the perfect setting for a night of networking-mingling-laughing-cocktailing – aka, a signature TIPS night.  NYC alums filled the summer night with smiles matching the venue’s tropical-themed, open-air easy-breezy feel.  Any good stories from the night?  Fabulous connections, dates, gossip-worthy ‘Spotted!’ moments?  Email us with your fave tales from the night.  Click on the thumbnails below to see the rest of the night’s pearly whites and see you next month at The Park!

SF: Four Seasons- Palo Alto

TIPS6.11.09 | Four Seasons -- Poolside cocktails at the Four Seasons in Silicon Valley was the perfect midweek networking break. With the sun shining and the drinks flowing, our first Silicon Valley event was the perfect way to kick off the summer season.

LA: Coco deVille

TIPS05.27.09 | Coco deVille -- Hovering between spring and summer, we danced our way out of one warm, breezy season and into the next blazing LA summer. Coco definitely lived up to its hype as ultra-fabulous and super swank (just like you TIPS-ers). Citysearch says “Enter this basement bar and lounge underneath STK, and you might feel as though you've stumbled down Wonderland's rabbit hole--except it's populated with Hollywood glitterati instead of the White Rabbit and company. The psychedelic, Pucci-esque decor is a kaleidoscope of colors, laced with a mishmash of bold prints in shocking pink and electric blue that enhance the intimate spot's kitschy look.”  And we like our TIPS glitterati even better than the usual Hollywood froo-froo which usually fill this hot spot!  So, until next time TIPSers, enjoy the free goodies in your gift bags courtesy of Beautyfix.com and click on the thumbnails below to check out the flirting-laughing-connecting-digit exchanging of the night.

NYC: Kiss and Fly

TIPS05.20.09 | Kiss and Fly -- Thanks for making our NYC TIPS Launch Party such a success!  The inaugural TIPS NYC class is definitely headed for a fun season.  500 fabulous Ivy Plus Society alums turned out to cocktail-network-laugh the night away at the Meatpacking's latest star: Kiss and Fly.  Disco balls bobbed, digits flew, cards were exchanged, and the first TIPS NYC night zoomed by.  Thanks to Beautyfix.com for supplying the brimming party favors for the night.  Click on any of the thumbnails below to check out the smiles of the night in our event pics slideshow.  Look forward to catching everyone at our next party at the Maritime Cabanas!

SF: Harlot

TIPS4.23.09 | Harlot -- We chased away the economic blues at Harlot, a sublime SOMA haunt that wowed us with its fantastic drinks and intoxicating 16-foot ceilings. Another laughing, shining TIPS night. Check out all the fabulous TIPSsters by clicking on the thumbnails below to launch the slideshow of event pics.

LA: Green Door

TIPS4.21.09 | Green Door -- For our April young alum playdate, we were off to Hollywood to go frolic at Green Door, a gem on the Hollywood nightlife scene.  What were we celebrating this month?  How about…with all this depression talk, since we’re not there yet, we decided to go for a spree and party like it’s still the Jazz Age ‘20s.  Behind this very special Hollywood Green Door, we found a living room and outdoor patio right out of an 18th c. French Chateau bubbling over with the laughter of LALA TIPSers...

SF: Supper Club

TIPS3.27.09 | Supper Club-- We said Supper Club needed to be experienced and what an experience it was. For our March TIPS event, we slipped into Spring amidst the disco balls, the performance shows (opera anyone?), groovy music and all of our favorite TIPS alums. Check out all the night's fun by clicking on the thumbnails below to launch the slideshow of event pics.

LA: Cabana Club

TIPS3.18.09 | Cabana Club -- March took us to Cabana Club to chase away the spring showers with a March martini or 3 at our favorite tropical Hollywood retreat.  Palm trees swayed, TIPS-ers gabbed, drinks were had, and the spring night flew by.  Check out all the night's smiles by clicking on the thumbnails below to launch the slideshow of event pics.

LA: Saturday Pre-Party at Studio BeautyMix at Fred Segal

TIPS3.7.09 | Fred Segal -- Saturday night got off to a beautiful start with our Studio BeautyMix Fred Segal pre-party in Santa Monica.  Huge thanks to Charlie Perer and all the Studio staff for making this event happen!  Barefoot Wine kept the sparkling drinks flowing as party guests worked with a host of professional artists offering complimentary make-overs, hair styling, facials, hand massage, and more.  Chocolates, pastries and cookies kept the munchies at bay, we let the music play, and made our way out for Saturday night armed with fab make-overs and all the latest beauty trends.  Gift bags for all made for a great start to the weekend – who doesn’t love freebies when the economic sky is falling outside?  And, ladies, Wow!  You all looked gorgeous!  (guys too, but you don’t really want to be called gorgeous do you?) Response to this event was huge – tickets sold out in less than a week – so we’ll try to plan another one soon, promise!  Click on the thumbnails below to check out the rest of the event photos.

SF: Station House

TIPS2.28.09 | Station House -- For our February party, we rocked Station House – a fantastic, private venue that we had all to ourselves. Shimmering walls of lights and art, fantastic music, yummy cocktails, helped us kick off a great Friday night. Click on the photos below to check out all of the beautiful and talented TIPS friends.

LA: Valentine's at Stone Rose

TIPS2.10.09 | Stone Rose-- Roses are red, violets are blue, I went to a fancy school, how ‘bout you?  For February – month of romance, love, and all things red, pink, and mushy, we hit up Rande Gerber’s Stone Rose Bar at the Sofitel. Did anyone find their Mr./Ms. Right, Right-Now, or All-Right, You’ll Do for Now?  Definitely looked like there were some pairings in the air… Thanks to Sweet Riot, we had deep, dark chocolate flowing all night long, so one way or another, there was a bit of sugar for everyone.  Click on the photos below to check out the rest of the night’s matchings.

SF: 111 Minna Gallery

TIPS1.29.09 | 111 Minna Gallery -- This month we shook off the post holiday winter blues and kicked 2009 into high gear with our favorite TIPsters. 111 Minna with its thought provoking art this gallery/bar/lounge was the perfect place to get our conversation on. Can't wait to see everyone next month. Click below for more pictures.

LA: Les Deux

TIPS1.7.09 | Les Deux-- Les Deux definitely left us with a new fave TIPS party-base! With its gorgeous outdoor living room dripping in red light, Les Deux was the perfect spot for TIPSers to get together to usher in 2009. No post-holiday-party-season-depression for this bubbling crowd. We gotta agree with the LA Times who says “the nostalgia here is so now. The scene could be 1920s Paris except for all the young Hollywood royals who are making it… Maybe the reason Christina Aguilera, the Hilton sisters, Joaquin Phoenix and Eva Longoria are repeat customers is the succulent lighting. Even a toad would look handsome at Les Deux, but more than likely, you'll be meeting princes and princesses.” So... anyone have any tails of prince or princess meetings? Do tell. We're always happy to publish any good party gossip/ tales in our recaps, so send us anything story-worthy for next time: events@ivyplussociety.org.

LA- Holiday Party at James Gray Gallery

TIPS12.13.08 | James Gray Gallery --Ho! Ho! Holiday Party! Our Holiday Party Night brimmed with mistletoe, sparkling cocktails, melting chocolate, stunning art, and even more stunning young alums. Bullet-Proof Gentleman and Shimmering Ladies: y’all clean up very well!…LA needs more excuses to turn out satiny cocktail dressed ladies and sharp jacketed boys! Thanks to budding flower design superstar (‘scuse the pun, couldn’t resist) Stephanie Jones (Yale ’00), the gallery was decorated with gorgeous flowers… and of course the TIPSers in the house took care of decorating the night with laughing smiles and holiday cheer. Special thanks to Red Bull, Fulfilled Pastries, Barefoot Wine, and Sweet Riot Chocolate for helping to fuel our holiday fun! Merry Holidays to All and Look forward to dancing through many more TIPS nights together in 2009!

SF- Ho! Ho! Holiday Celebration

TIPS12.06.08 | Martin Lawrence Gallery -- We joined our favorite young alum friends and filled the night with young alum spirit and holiday cheer – along with fabulous libations from Foggy Bridge and Barefoot wine. Red Bull kept our energy up as we enjoyed a wonderful night among iconic art from Martin Lawrence gallery. See you next month at 111 Minna.

Sky Bar – West Hollywood

Kress10.28.08 | Sky Bar -- This month, we went for one more Sky Bar Dance before the year ends…  As usual, Sky Bar did not disappoint.  The party was absolutely brimming with 400 fabulous young alums and enough gorgeous views and peops to go around for all.  We had the entire place all to our special selves, making for a smashing Sunset night to remember.  Skybar, with its open air, ivy-covered pavilion perched above the Pool and Outdoor Living Room, has been one of LA's hottest nightspots from the day it opened.  With its simple tin roof, rustic log beams and “schoolhouse” style wood furniture, it appears to almost float in the clouds, boasting some of the finest views around.  We vote this as our all-time fave venue to date.  What do you think?  Well, until next time, Take Care Sky Bar.  See you in ’09!
