Now that the senate has passed a financial-reform bill, the fun really starts: Watering down all the provisions that pose any threat of, you know, reforming the financial system. To do that of course, you need lobbyists. Lots and lots of lobbyists. And where better to find them than ... K Street? Which is -- conveniently -- where we're hosting this month's TIPS party: It's the K Street lounge. Come on out and toss back a few with some young alum friends. Quick, before there are no provisions left to weaken.
Free appetizers until 7:30 pm.
Metromix raves about K Street Lounge, "If not for the discreet black banners, you could walk right by Kstreet Lounge. But step inside and you’ll find a cavernous space that's as sleek as a catwalk. It’s been named as the top lounge in DC by Market Watch magazine. The primary color scheme is black and white, from the chic black sofas to the white floors. Purple and red neon lights add color and a large purple bar dominates the back wall. The ceiling soar and the lounging areas are slightly elevated off the polished floor."

K Street Lounge
6.24.10 | K Street Lounge -- The senate passed the financial-reform bill, which meant the start of the real fun: Watering down all the provisions that pose any threat of, you know, reforming the financial system. To do that of course, you need lobbyists. Lots and lots of lobbyists. And where better to find them than ... K Street? Which is -- conveniently -- where we hosted this month's TIPS party: It was the K Street lounge. One Lounge
5.20.10 | One Lounge -- Drink prices in Dupont Circle have been edging inexorably skyward ever since neighborhood bars realized that Carrie Bradshaw-wannabees exist in the nation's capital, too. Yes, we feel your pain. Message: We care. This month TIPS struck a blow against the $27 Cosmo-tini by unfurling our banner at One Lounge -- home of the best high-class happy hour in town.
We enjoyed specialty martini for the price of a beer and micro-brew beers for the price of fries. Call it the recession special. Good thing you we got here when we did: We hear economic recovery is right around the corner. And once that happens, Cosmo prices have nowhere to go but up... Hudson
4.22.10 | Hudson -- The warm spring weather made the perfect setting for our April TIPS event and a more social reconciliation than the one Washington just witnessed with the most bitterly-contested bill-passage since the passage of Bill C through the impeachment hearings. We planted a flag at Hudson, a place named after the river that divides New York and New Jersey as turbulently as the healthcare law divides Washington -- and we were pleased to see Republicans and Dems alike come together for drinks & laughs. Cards were exchanged, friends were made, cocktails downed, and a good time was had by all. Stay tuned for the best events of the year as the warm summer weather draws all the TIPS-ers out of their winter hibernation. Click on the thumbnails below to launch a slideshow of event pics.

Current
3.25.10 | Current -- So congress members were posturing like peacocks over healthcare; so the IRS was under attack; so Sarah Palin was reading palms (hey, at least she was reading!) ... We forgot about all that for a moment. Because The Ivy Plus Society offered a respite from all the madness at new Asian fusion lounge Current. Cool aquatic themes. Sushi and saki bombs. It was enough to get our minds off the freakish snow storms that had DC looking like a scene out of "The Day After Tomorrow." So we set aside partisan bickering and 2012-handicapping long enough to swill some cocktails with our fellow young alumni! Click on any of the thumbnails below to launch a photo slideshow.

L2 Lounge
2.16.10 | L2 Lounge -- February is the month when the Hallmark company wants you to feel bad about being alone -- and tries to convince you that a $4, pre-inscribed greeting card is the most authentic, creative way to express your true feelings toward your significant other(s). It's quite a racket, and we're very impressed. TIPS humbly presented an alternative: Grab a single friend and bring him or her to the L2 Lounge. There were plenty of well-educated, dynamic, over-achievers eager to chase away the Valentine's Day blues. Those who played their cards right got hit by Cupid's arrow. Local 16
1.21.10 | Local 16 -- We at TIPS knew that the advent of this new decade was going to be unsettling in all sorts of ways: For starters, we didn't even have a name for previous decade; and once we did, VH1 was going to start paying tribute to it with all manner of nostalgic fluff. Nobody needed that right now. So as a palliative against all this tumult, TIPS kicked off 2010 at the most soothing place we could find: Local 16. It's for locals. They use local veggies and meats in their appetizers. And they've got the best zen-inspiring roof garden in the city. We all took a load off after our holiday travels and came to a place where we felt like a local.

The Reserve
12.16.09 | The Reserve -- You know how every new frat bar on M street calls itself a "lounge" -- just because it doesn't have stale peanuts and a neon Miller High Life sign? Yeah, that annoys us, too. That's why we selected an ACTUAL lounge as the venue of this month's TIPS party: The Reserve. We geared up for the holiday-season madness by LOUNGING with our fellow young alumni in style and comfort. We then indulged in the holiday fun with alumni friends new and old, enjoying holiday drink specials, laughs, and one of the Reserve's beautiful wine flights.

George
11.19.09 | George -- For The Ivy Plus Society's second Washington DC young alum party, we spun the night away at Georgetown's newest exclusive hot spot: George. Over 300 people turned out for the Georgetown bash, enjoying each other's company with free appetizers and drink specials all night long.

Lux Lounge
10.16.09 | Lux Lounge-- In spite of the rain, over 450 DC young alums turned out in full force to celebrate the launch of our DC TIPS chapter with our inaugural event at Lux Lounge.
We celebrated with dessert and Ivy cocktails, hit the dance floor, and cocktailed the connecting night away. Smiles and laughs filled the TIPS DC night as we toasted friends, new and old. If you joined the fun, click on any of the thumbnails below to find your smile amidst the revelry. If you missed out, check out the fun and hope to catch you next month at Georges for Round Two!
